The primary goal of this exhibition is to share the story of the Britannia Mine community while also demonstrating innovative methods of digital preservation and storytelling.

EVOLUTION OF LIGHTING

Harnessing flames & power

Imagine waking early in the morning to begin your regular 9 – 5 shift in complete darkness, guided only by the light of a single candle. This was the reality of daily life for many miners in the early 1900s.

For this exhibition,
visitors will be immersed in a virtual journey through a cave digitally scanned from the Britannia Mine, using virtual reality technology to provide an authentic overview of how the lighting changed over the years in Britannia.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST

Replicas of artifacts at your fingertips

Interesting fact! Only about 3 – 5% of artifacts held in museums across North America are on public display. The vast majority of collections remain in secured behind closed doors, where they are carefully preserved and protected from deterioration.

For this exhibition,
Visitors will have the opportunity to handle carefully produced 3D-printed replicas of artifacts that can no longer be exhibited in their original form due to their condition, offering a interactive way to engage with these historical artifacts.

THE COPPER QUEEN

Royalty at Britannia

Once a year from 1926 – 1966, the residents of the Britannia Mine would hold the famous Copper Queen Festivals. Wherein, the students living at the mine would elect a queen and throw a wide variety of challenges, competitions, and celebrations. It was the highlight of every year in Britannia Mine.

For this exhibition,
we will explore what it meant to be a Copper Queen, the types of celebrations individuals participated in, and most importantly, the unique subcultures that emerged at Britannia Mine.
